August kicks off with music in the park, a National Night Out throughout the community and a craft show in Eagles Mere. The coming week starts out sunny but thunderstorms may be spotted toward the end.

WSO Billtown Brass Pops at Brandon Park, Williamsport

The WSO’s Billtown Brass Band will present a concert at Brandon Park. The programs will follow a traditional park concert model presenting an eclectic collection of great brass music with solos by band members and sections.

National Night Out

Get to know your neighbors better. Enjoy the evening celebrating a block party, gathering for a picnic, or maybe taking a walk together through the neighborhood. Put your porch light on to strengthen that neighborhood spirit and enjoy! United Churches is partnering with the Citizen Corps Council to invite congregations to celebrate this special “Night Out.”

Prostate Cancer Support Group

Meets the first Wednesday of each month. Use the Cancer Center entrance and parking area. The August meeting is substituted with an annual picnic held at Indian Park in Montoursville. December’s meeting is substituted with an annual holiday dinner. This group is open to all males with a past or present prostate cancer diagnosis. Spouses are also encouraged to attend. The Perseid Meteor Shower

This annual event is usually the most spectacular meteor shower of the year. This year, although a one-quarter moon may reduce the viewing, it will still be a good show, assuming clear skies. In case of overcast skies, the movie “Planets of the Sun” will be shown at the amphitheater at 9:30.
