Taber Museum sponsors talk on Pa. Long Rifles

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will host Rich Nornhold for a lecture on Pennsylvania Long Rifles. Nornhold, a native of Snyder County, has been studying Pennsylvania long rifles and guns most of his life.

Family Walk In Wednesday: Magician David Moreland

Blast off with Commander Dave (aka Moreland the Magician) on a fun voyage through outer space in his high-energy 45-minute show. Moreland’s show is packed with magic, comedy, puppets, audience participation, and several routines featuring volunteers from the audience. Stick around afterwards for his 10-minute magic workshop and learn a couple of magic tricks you can perform at home.

The Impact of Lycoming County on Pulitzer Prize Fiction Writer Conrad Richter presented by Larry Stout

A longtime resident of Pennsylvania, Conrad Richter was born in 1890 in Pine Grove. He is known for his frontier novels and detailed depiction of pioneer life, Richter wrote “The Sea of Grass,” and the Pulitzer Prize winning novel “The Town.” Richter won the National Book Award for “The Waters of Kronos.” He died in 1968 in Pottsville.

Commemoration of Michael Ross

The Lycoming County Historical Society will host a ceremony to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Michael Ross who died on June 20, 1819. Michael Ross was the founder and “proprietor of Williamsport,” having laid out the then small town in 1795. Williamsport became a borough in 1806 and a city in 1866. The 20-30 minute ceremony will take place at the Ross family plot near the center of the cemetery.
