Transition Points: Instrumental Music for Two Voices
The theory that some of the most interesting art is produced during times of great transition is put to the test in this programme of music that straddles historical periods, genres, and musical styles. Secular mixes with sacred, and the lines between dance, vocal, and instrumental music are blurred in the shift from late-Renaissance to early-Baroque; The extreme compositional changes of the Transitional Period (from Baroque to Classical) are exemplified in the work of a musician with a huge family legacy; and late-Classical composers explore elements of Romanticism years before Beethoven and Schubert. Be transported as Williamsport Chamber Players Ashley English Tobin and John Paul Tobin perform on historical violins and violas in the intimacy and fine acoustics of Lycoming College Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall.
